AirSep PSA Alpha Series Oxygen Generators Key in Ozone Generation for Largest Aquarium in the US

Ocean Voyager exhibit at Georgia Aquarium

AirSep PSA Oxygen Generators have been a key part in ozone generation supporting critical life support systems and infrastructure at Georgia Aquarium since its opening in November of 2005 in Atlanta.

The Aquarium, the largest in the US, attracts more than 2 million guests each year to view the unique aquatic biodiversity, and take part in special academic programming and research endeavors.

At the heart of the Aquarium’s mission is a focus on exploration and research that advance the preservation and restoration of endangered species in its living collection, and beyond — inspiring awareness and preservation of ocean and aquatic animals worldwide.

Georgia Aquarium is a Center for Species Survival by the Species Survival Commission of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This designation sets the Aquarium apart as being one of the first North American facilities to be a Center for Species Survival.

Key to marine life survival is the technology behind the Aquarium’s closed-loop water system which recirculates, treats and reuses.

Ozone generation, supported by oxygen feed gas, safely filters water, removes harmful bacteria, virus, and contaminants, but also ensures an optimal world-class view of exhibits with crystal-clear clarity across nine major galleries. This is an important job for the over 100,000 aquatic and semi-aquatic residents who call the Aquarium’s 11 million gallons of water home.

AS-G systems at Georgia Aquarium

AirSep Alpha Series oxygen generators including the AS-N, AS-G, and AS-E harness the power of pressure swing absorption (PSA) technology to support ozone generation which is closely monitored and managed by the members of the Aquarium’s Life Support Systems team throughout the facility.

Equipment installation highlights include the usage of AS-N Oxygen Generators to support the Ocean Voyager exhibit, which is the largest habitat at the Aquarium, and one of the largest aquatic habitats in the world, with 6.8 million total gallons of water, and being home to the world’s largest fish — whale sharks.

In this exhibit the Life Support Systems team members alternate usage between two AS-N systems which provide feed gas to the ozone generator that supports this exhibit and also additional observation pools that allow Aquarium staff to care for fish and examine larger animals away from the main exhibit.

Similarly, two AS-G systems support the Sharks! Predators of the Deep gallery and two AS-E systems support the Sea Lion exhibit.
